Copy Editing
Role of a Copy Editor
Copy editors are responsible for checking the accuracy of the spelling and grammar of articles. This also includes ensuring that the article conforms to the ESLR House Style. In order to verify the accuracy of the citations, we ask you to physically check that accurate page numbers, volume numbers and dates are given for all books, cases, articles, etc. Copy editors are required to access all the cited sources for verification purposes. The copy editor does not need any specialist knowledge of the area covered by the article, as they are not responsible for assessing its content.
Copy editors should be detail-oriented, focused, and able to demonstrate excellent database research and recall skills. They must also possess a strong understanding of the ESLR House Style, as well the ability to meet editing and publication deadlines.
How to Apply
Each year we seek to recruit new copy editors. Interested applicants are asked to forward their CV, via email to the Editorial Board, and specify in the covering email that you are applying to become a copy editor. Training is provided to successful applicants with respect copy editor duties, techniques, and applying the ESLR House Style.
Please note: the application period for the 2020 publication has now closed.
